Evernote has announced the release of version 4.0 of its app for Android smartphones and tablets. The new version brings a complete redesign to the app, as well as some usability improvements.

Evernote 4.0 is built to be compliant with the new app design guidelines that Google introduced for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It includes an all-new homescreen that can be accessed by just swiping to the right from any place in the app. The new homescreen makes it easy to create new notes or jump to different notes or notebooks.

The list of notes and notebooks has also been redesigned to make it easier to navigate. Personal and shared notebooks are now visible in the same page. Additionally, the contextual "action bars" at the bottom of the screen provide options to quickly view, edit, tag, or create notes.

Notes are now displayed full screen for easier reading, and the Places section has been upgraded to display maps of where each note was created. Evernote says that there are numerous other improvements within the new app, as well.

Evernote for Android version 4.0 is free and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store now. Check out the video below to see the new app in action.
