Instagram for Android may have notched one million downloads in less than a day, but its popularity hasn't seemed to wane one iota since then. In just six days since its launch, Instagram for Android has passed the five million download mark.
Instagram said that since it launched on Android, it has seen 2,000 sign-ups per minute for the service. It had originally logged 430,000 pre-registrants for the Android version of the app before it was released. The company says that iOS users now number more than 30 million.
All of this popularity seems to have paid off for Instagram, as just yesterday Facebook announced its intent to buy the company for $1 billion worth of cash and stock. Facebook says it will continue to develop Instagram as a separate product, but it will integrate some of Instagram's features into its own photo services and mobile apps. [via The Next Web]
