Sony has already released beta versions of the upcoming Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates for unlocked versions of the Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray, but now owners of the Xperia PLAY gaming-centric smartphone can get in on the action.
The company is offering a pre-release version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for unlocked versions of the Xperia PLAY and is looking for feedback from users as to what works and what doesn't. Sony cautions that this is a beta and there are definite bugs, and the lack of Google apps like Gmail and Maps is probably enough to keep everyday users away, but those that want to see what Android 4.0 will be like on the PLAY can dive in now.
It should be noted that though Sony doesn't specify, this update will probably not work with the Xperia PLAY offered by Verizon Wireless or the Xperia PLAY 4G from AT&T. Head over to Sony's developer site to get started on the upgrade if you are interested.
