ZTE was showing off its new Era smartphone, a quad-core packing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich handset that measures less than 8mm thick, at Mobile World Congress 2012 and we stopped by ZTE's booth for a closer look.

The Era is an incredibly thin device when you pick it up and it is very reminiscent of HTC's smartphones. Its 4.3-inch, qHD (540 x 960 pixel) display is very bright and vibrant, and the build quality of the Era is much better than we have come to expect from ZTE.

Under the thin shell is an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. It proved to be quite snappy when pushing around Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, though ZTE's choice of default wallpaper and its custom lockscreen proved to be a bit seizure inducing.

ZTE plans to launch the Era in the second half of 2012 in Europe and China.
