Toshiba hasn't yet announced its upcoming 7.7-inch tablet, but that hasn't stopped it from stepping out of the shadows at Mobile World Congress 2012. The 7.7-inch tablet looks very similar to Toshiba's larger Excite X10 10.1-inch tablet, and it packs an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor.

In fact, it was in NVIDIA's booth where we spotted the thin tablet, as the chipmaker was using it to show off the gaming capabilities of the Tegra 3 chip. The nameless 7.7-inch Toshiba tablet (Excite X7, perhaps?) has a 1280 x 800 pixel, 7.7-inch AMOLED display that is extremely bright and vibrant with great viewing angles. The tablet itself is very thin, much in the way the X10 is, and it has a flat back like the X10. The rear has a textured finish that helps you grip the tablet when you are gaming hard. We did spot micro-USB and microSD ports along the side of the tablet, and there are both front and rear cameras, though we are unsure of the resolution of each.

We were told that the software on the tablet was not yet final, but it was running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich. NVIDIA installed a host of games on the device, and while the graphics of the games look phenomenal, there were some hiccups during gameplay that were very hard to ignore. The rest of the interface was fairly responsive, though.

Toshiba has not released a name, pricing, or availability for this new tablet, but based on what we've seen, it doesn't seem like its far off from an official launch.
