Qualcomm has announced the new WCN3680 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/FM combo chip for mobile devices that supports the "5G" 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard. The new chip is a companion to the 28nm Snapdragon family of processors, and will be built in to the Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 and S4 APQ8064 dual-core and quad-core Krait processors. Qualcomm says the new Wi-Fi chip has "high throughput for fast data transfer and low power consumption." The company will be sampling the chips to manufacturers in Q2 2012.
