HP is living up to its word that it will release more parts of the webOS operating system to the open source community on a monthly basis, as it has just announced the availability of three new pieces of the system.
Released to developers today are UI widgets for the Enyo 2 development environment, the JavaScript core that powers much of webOS, and a new web browser called Isis. Isis, not to be confused with the joint venture mobile payment scheme involving AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile, is powered by the QtWebKit engine that is said to be extremely responsive. HP says that the components released today allow developers to create "immersive user environment(s) that can be built on any web platform."
At this point, the open source webOS releases are still geared towards developers, and it will be some time before users will be able to install them on actual devices.
