This week, it was revealed that foursquare quietly added Near Field Communications (NFC) check-in and sharing capabilities to its Android app. Smartphones with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and an NFC chip (currently the Google Galaxy Nexus or Nexus S) will now be able to check into locations that have NFC tags by tapping on the tag. They can also share location and venue information with other Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich devices using the platform's Beam function. Foursquare added the NFC check-in feature to the Symbian version of its app late last year.
