We learned earlier this week that Microsoft was starting to internally test the long-awaited Skype app for Windows Phone, but according the The Verge, we may see the launch of the app in just a few weeks at Mobile World Congress.
As one would guess, the Skype app is said to follow Microsoft's Metro design language, so it should look and feel like a real Windows Phone app. The Verge says that deep integration of Skype with the People Hub will come with Windows Phone 8 later this year, but this first effort is a stand-alone app.
Supposedly, the app is nearly complete, with just a limited amount of testing necessary. If the Skype app passes all of Microsoft's internal tests, it could very well debut at MWC say The Verge's sources. Frankly, Microsoft really should not drag its feet any longer with this, and we feel that a Skype app should have appeared for Windows Phone ages ago.
