Yahoo! recently announced that it would discontinue support and development for a number of mobile apps available for the iOS, Android, and BlackBerry platforms. The search company notes that while it is leaving these apps behind for greener pastures, it still has a suite of other apps available for mobile devices, and that it will continue to develop new apps for mobile users.
The apps that are getting the axe are:
* Yahoo! Meme (iPad and iPhone)
* Yahoo! Mim (iPad)
* Yahoo! Answers (Android)
* Yahoo! AppSpot (Android and iPhone)
* Yahoo! Deals (iPhone)
* Yahoo! Finance (BlackBerry)
* Yahoo! Movies (Android)
* Yahoo! News (Android)
* Yahoo! Shopping (iPhone)
* Yahoo! Sketch-a-Search (iPad and iPhone)
Yahoo! is still supporting and offering its Mail, News, Sports, Finance, and Messenger apps for various platforms, as well as the recently introduced IntoNow and Livestand apps. The AppSpot and Sketch-a-Search apps will no longer be available as stand-alone apps, but their features have been integrated into the Yahoo! Search app for the iPhone and will be added to the Search app for Android in the near future.
"Our plan is to keep moving, to keep innovating, and to continuously measure and scrutinize what's working and what isn't - so we can make room for great new products. In that spirit, today we're decommissioning several of our current mobile apps," said the company in a statement. Yahoo! also promises that users will see new apps and apps that work together with its current mobile offerings released throughout 2012. [Yahoo! via Phone Scoop]
