Today McAfee announced the latest version of its security software for mobile devices, McAfee Mobile Security 2.0. The application is available for Android smartphones and tablets as well as smartphones running on the BlackBerry OS and Symbian OS platforms.

The new version of the application offers a feature called App Alert, which keeps mobile device users informed as to what their apps are doing with their personal information. Call and SMS filtering gives users the ability to block unwanted calls and spam text messages, and McAfee Mobile Security 2.0 also pulls down data from McAfee's Global Threat Intelligence network to keep itself up to date on the latest malware threats with over the air updates.

In addition to the newly added features, McAfee Mobile Security 2.0 continues to offer protection from viruses, spyware, and phishing schemes. Users are also protected against links to high-risk websites and are offered features like remote device locking and wiping, backup and restoration of data, and device tracking using GPS.

The 2.0 version of the app is a free upgrade for existing users, but costs $29.99 for new subscribers. More information and a trial of the service are available from the McAfee website.
