A Dutch appeals court has upheld a previous decision by a lower court stating that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet does not infringe upon Apple's design patents. The lower court had denied Apple's request for an injunction against the device back in August 2011, prompting Apple to file an appeal.
The court based its decision on multiple pieces of prior art (including the Knight Ridder tablet and an HP/Compaq tablet) that showed the design of tablets was not invented by Apple. Based on the court's conclusion, Apple design patents are valid, but have a narrower reach than Apple was trying to assert against Samsung.
Samsung had also sued Apple in the Netherlands back in October, looking for an injunction against the sale of Apple smartphones and tablets in the country. That request was denied by the courts as well. [via FOSS Patents]
