LG has announced the Optimus Pad LTE, its latest Android tablet device. Following up on the Optimus Pad from last year, the Optimus Pad LTE is the first tablet from LG with built-in 4G LTE connectivity.

Like last-year's Optimus Pad, the Optimus Pad LTE features an 8.9-inch IPS True HD display with 1280 x 768 pixels of resolution. The dual rear cameras that gave the Optimus Pad 3D capabilities have been dropped in favor of a single 8 megapixel unit that can record HD video and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera for video chats. The Optimus Pad LTE has support for microSD cards up to 32GB in capacity, offering users a lot of expansion room for their media.

Powering the Optimus Pad LTE is a new, dual-core, 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor and a 6,800mAh battery. The tablet runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb, and LG did not say whether or when it would be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Optimus Pad LTE has shed a few millimeters and grams from the Optimus Pad, as it measures 245mm x 151.4mm x 9.34mm (9.65in x 5.96in x 0.37in) in size and weighs a mere 497g (17.53oz) - over three millimeters thinner and over 100 grams lighter than the original Optimus Pad.

LG says the Optimus Pad LTE will initially launch in Korea, but it did not provide information on availability in other markets. The original Optimus Pad was released in the U.S. as the T-Mobile G-Slate, but it is not clear whether or not LG has the same plans to launch a carrier-specific version of the Optimus Pad LTE in the U.S.
