Motorola has announced a slightly-modified version of the rugged DEFY+ smartphone that is exclusively available in the UK. The new DEFY+ was designed in partnership with the JCB construction company and features an exclusive new case and custom apps.
Under its new visco-elastic protective skin, the DEFY+ JCB Edition is the same as the DEFY+ launched in September 2011, as it includes a 1GHz processor, 3.7-inch display, 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Motorola's custom user interface. The DEFY+ JCB Edition is water-resistant, scratch-resistant, and dust-proof, and features Gorilla Glass on its display for added durability. It comes with a 1,700mAh battery that should last for 7.1 hours of talk time or 16 days of standby.
In addition to Motorola's custom user interface on top of Android, the DEFY+ JCB Edition comes with apps designed with the outdoor or construction site user in mind. The phone has a spirit level, theodolite, decibel meter and recorder, torch, unit converter, calculator, and DIY store locator all pre-loaded out of the box.
Motorola is offering the DEFY+ JCB Edition for 259.99 GBP (US$399) in shops across the UK now. The phone also includes a car charger with an "extra long curly cable."
