This evening, Toshiba announced the Excite X10, the U.S. version of the AT200 Android tablet that was originally unveiled at the IFA trade show back in September of last year. The Excite X10 is everything that the original Thrive tablet wasn't, as it features a razor-thin 7.7mm profile and a fast processor.

The Excite X10 has the same specs as the AT200: 10.1-inch, WXGA (1280 x 800 pixel) display; 1.2GHz, dual-core processor; 1GB of RAM; 5 megapixel rear camera with 2 megapixel front camera; and that 7.7mm thick frame. Toshiba is using magnesium alloy for the construction of the Excite X10, so it is stiff and resilient despite its very thin profile. The Excite X10 still makes room for a dock connector, a microSD card slot, a micro-USB port, and a micro-HDMI port along its edge.

Initially, the Excite X10 will launch with Android 3.2 Honeycomb, but an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is expected shortly after launch. Toshiba says the Excite X10 will be available in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2012 and it will be offered in 16 and 32GB capacity versions, costing $529.99 and $599.99, respectively.
