Sharp has announced a new camera sensor for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets that features a high resolution and built-in image stabilization. The 12.1 megapixel CMOS chip measures a mere 5.47mm tall, making it the smallest camera sensor with integrated image stabilization on the market. The sensor is back-illuminated for better low-light performance, and can be paired with an f/2.5 lens. It also supports full 1080p HD video recording. Sharp says that mass production on the new chip will begin next month and it will be delivered to device manufacturers shortly after.source: Sharp, via: Phone Scoop
