Ever since HP decided to axe webOS hardware back in August, the fate of the webOS software division and the future of the platform has been up in the air. The situation was exacerbated when HP ousted Leo Apotheker, the CEO that made the decision to axe the hardware, and brought in new CEO Meg Whitman. Whitman was largely expected to announce the fate of webOS during HP's Q3 2011 earnings call, but aside from revealing how much money HP had spent on webOS ($3.3 billion), she was mum on the topic. Now, in an interview with a French newspaper, Whitman says a decision will be made within the next two weeks.

In an interview with Le Figaro, Whitman replied when questioned on the fate of webOS "We should announce our decision in the next two weeks. This is not an easy decision, because we have a team of 600 people which is in limbo. We need to have another operating system."

At this point it is still not clear what exactly will happen with webOS, but since HP has already sunk a large amount of money into the platform and it has yet to be successful, its future looks pretty bleak. [via All Things D]
