Verizon Wireless has added another Samsung smartphone to its stable for the holiday season, the Samsung Illusion. The Illusion features recycled materials in its construction and packaging, and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The Illusion is powered by a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor and has a 3 megapixel camera on the back. The screen measures 3.5 inches in size and has an HVGA (320 x 480 pixel) resolution. The phone includes Bluetooth 3.0 and a 6-axis accelerometer with compass. Samsung has equipped the Illusion with its TouchWiz interface on top of Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Verizon Wireless is highlighting the environmentally-friendly features of the Illusion, as it claims that 70 percent of the rear casing and battery cover and 35 percent of the front casing is made from post-consumer materials. The packaging that the Illusion is shipped in is made from bleach-free paper and printed with vegetable ink, and the Illusion's box is 60 percent made up of recycled materials. The Illusion also includes a "high-efficiency" charger with a full-charge alarm to conserve electricity.

The Samsung Illusion will make a debut at Verizon's online store on November 23, and will cost $79.99 with a new two-year contract. It is expected to be available in stores in January 2012.
