Those who were lucky enough to get a Google Galaxy Nexus in the UK and other countries where it launched last week might have discovered that the phone does not have Adobe Flash Player pre-installed, and the app is not available for download from the Android Market. Apparently, Adobe has not upgraded Flash Player to be compatible with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich just yet, but, fret not, as the company claims that an Ice Cream Sandwich version will be available before the end of the year.

Google provided a statement to SlashGear on the matter, saying "Flash hasn't been released for ICS yet so as far as we know, Adobe will support Flash for ICS." Adobe has backed up Google's claims, despite its earlier announcement that it is ceasing development on Flash Player for mobile devices. "Adobe will release one more version of the Flash Player for mobile browsing, which will provide support for Android 4.0 - expected to be released before the end of this year," said the company.

Once the Android 4.0-compatible version of Flash Player is released, Adobe will only offer security patches and bug fixes, and will no longer add features to the browser plug-in. The company has already announced that it will focus on HTML5 technology for mobile devices in lieu of developing Flash any further. [via Phone Scoop]
