T-Mobile USA's "Magenta Saturday" one-day sale on some of its tablets and smartphones takes place, a week before the typical post-Thanksgiving "Black Friday" sales begin.
The promotion allows users to purchase a non-subsidized device on one of the carrier's value plans, which include unlimited voice and text paired up with various data plans. Pricing involves an up front purchase price of the device, a mail-in rebate, and 20 monthly payments to spread the remainder of the expense over time. In the end, users can save significant costs this way, as opposed to paying a higher monthly plan cost and getting a "free" (subsidized) phone every 24 months.
With this promotion, the carrier's Samsung Galaxy S II would normally cost a full retail price of $529.99 when purchased with T-Mobile's Unlimited - Plus Value plan, which offers unlimited voice, texts, and 2GB of data for $59.99 per month. This Saturday, however, it can be had on the same plan for $199.99 up front and 20 monthly payments of $20. When you add in the value of the $150 mail-in rebate card you receive, the total cost works out to $449.99, for a net savings of $79.99. Similarly, you can save the same amount, $79.99, on the more affordable myTouch Q, paying a net $199.99 (after $49.99 up front, 20 monthly payments of $10, and a $50 mail-in rebate card).
Other devices offered in the promotion include the HTC Amaze 4G, the HTC Radar 4G, the BlackBerry Bold 9900, the Samsung Exhibit II, and the T-Mobile G-Slate and Dell Streak 7 tablets.
The special prices are available today only (November 19, 2011).
