LG has already promised that the Optimus 3D smartphone would be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread starting this month, but it has now released more details as to what will be included with that update, and its more than just a bump in Android versions. The "enhanced" update is promised to add a number of new features to the 3D-capable phone, as well as improve performance with key applications.
Bundled in with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update is Enhanced HSPA+ connectivity, giving the Optimus 3D HSPA+ 21Mbps support (previously, it capped out at 14Mbps). Additionally, LG is adding an "enriched 3D experience," complete with a 3D video editor and full-screen UI preview. Finally, the update also includes image stabilization support for 2D footage shot on the phone's camcorder, and faster loading times for the image gallery itself.
The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update is scheduled to roll out to unlocked and unbranded (meaning, you didn't buy it from a carrier) Optimus 3D smartphones in Europe starting November 21, with other markets and versions getting it later on. No word on when it will arrive for the Thrill 4G, AT&T's version of the Optimus 3D, but AT&T has promised that all 2011 Android smartphones would be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread at some point, so it should eventually arrive for the Thrill 4G too.
