Apple has just released the iOS 5.0.1 update that it promised a few weeks back. The update resolves a number of bugs with the platform, most notable of which is the battery life issue that has been plaguing users on the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4.

In addition to the battery life fix, Apple has addressed an issue with Documents in iCloud, improved voice recognition on the iPhone 4S for Australian users, and added the multitasking gestures that debuted on the iPad 2 to the original iPad .

One of the new features of iOS 5 is the ability to accept updates over-the-air, like Android devices, but it appears that Apple is staggering the deployment of OTA updates, as not all users have received them. If you want to update your device without waiting for the OTA update, you can plug it into iTunes and download the update directly. iOS 5.0.1 is available for the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, and third and fourth generation iPod touch.
