4.0 stars

(How we score)

Dual-core processor, crisp display, low cost
Cheap build quality, software stability issues, boring design

The Motorola ATRIX 2 is the successor to the ATRIX 4G from earlier this year, which broke the dual-core smartphone world wide open in the U.S. The ATRIX 2 improves upon the original ATRIX 4G in a number of ways, though it does lack some of the personality characteristics that the original had - for better or worse. AT&T quietly introduced the ATRIX 2 at a very competitive price-point, and it certainly has not received the same marketing push as its forebear.

Though the ATRIX 2 won't turn any heads, it is a solid smartphone available at a cheaper price than one might expect. Motorola's improvements to the screen and camera are certainly welcome, and the ATRIX 2 can take advantage of the company's growing assortment of Lapdock accessories. The ATRIX 2 does have a few faults ? some software stability issues and it lacks the quality feel of other high-end smartphones ? but it still provides most everything that a smartphone shopper is looking for in 2011, for a price less than that of other dual-core-powered smartphones on the shelf. Read on to find out where the ATRIX 2 shines and where it leaves some room for improvement with the next ATRIX to come out of Motorola's production lines.
