According to filings submitted to the SEC, Motorola Mobility is planning to cut 800 jobs from its payroll. Motorola expects up-front costs of $31 million associated with the layoffs. Accoring to Bloomberg, $4 million of the expenses will be associated with closing facilities and the remainder will be incurred as severance payments.

Motorola claims that the cuts are unrelated to the planned acquisition of the company by Google. Motorola stockholders will vote on the acquisition deal, which is valued at $12.5 billion, during a meeting on November 17.
