Opera has updated its popular Opera Mini and Opera Mobile web browsers for the Android platform with new ways to monitor how much data is being used by browsing the internet. Built into each web browser is a web data usage monitor that can be set to report all usage, or for a set time period.

Opera says that this new data monitor feature will help those who are traveling and using roaming coverage, or those who have very limited data plans for their mobile devices. In addition to the new data monitor feature, Opera Mini and Opera Mobile can now import bookmarks from other browsers, and offer access to their bookmarks from new home screen shortcuts. The Opera Mobile app can now take advantage of Opera's Turbo compression technology, saving data usage on mobile networks. Opera says that there are a number of performance enhancements related to HTML5 and Javascript rendering within the updates as well.

The new Opera Mini 6.5 and Opera Mobile 11.5 are free and available in the Android Market or from m.opera.com.
