Sprint has announced a new partnership with McAfee that will provide Sprint customers with the option to purchase McAfee's Mobile Security and Family Protection software for their Android smartphones. Customers will be able to access the software suites directly from the Sprint tab in the Android Market or from within the Sprint Zone app.

The Mobile Security app from McAfee is offered as a seven-day free trial for new customers, and then it costs $29.99 for an annual subscription. The service offers the ability to locate and track a smartphone should it ever be lost or stolen, as well as the ability to lock and wipe the device remotely. Additionally, McAfee offers cloud backup of contacts, photos, and videos, and it provides real-time protection against trojans, viruses, and malware. Mobile Security also protects against phishing, identity theft, and credit card fraud on malicious websites.

The Family Protection software suite is free for the first 30 days, after which it costs $19.99 annually. It provides web filtering services for the internet browsers on smartphones and tablets, and allows parents to block categories of sites that feature drugs, pornography and weapons, or set up custom filters for specific sites. It has built-in protections so that kids cannot remove it from the phone.

The new security options from McAfee are available to Sprint customers starting today.
