Subscribers to Cablevision's Optimum TV service have been able to watch live TV on the iPad with the Optimum app for some time now, provided they were at home and connected to their Cablevision internet service. Unfortunately, the live TV capability wasn't extended to the iPhone or iPod touch versions of the Optimum app, but an update released today has brought the smaller iOS devices up to speed with the iPad.
Version 2.0 of the Optimum app for the iPhone and iPod touch will now let users stream live television programming to their devices, as long as they are at home and connected to their Optimum internet router, of course. The update also allows playback of On Demand rentals, and gives users the ability to schedule and manage DVR Plus recordings. Favorite channels will now automatically appear on all devices, and you can use the app as a remote control for Optimum's iO digital cable boxes.
The iPad version of the app has received a similar update to version 2.0 that includes the ability to schedule and manage DVR Plus recordings, view favorite channels, and use the app as a remote for the digital cable box. The Optimum app for iPad has had the ability to watch streaming TV and DVR rentals since April.
